Weekly Wire: Your New Music Playlist of the Week Featuring Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden + More
Every Friday, we'll be curating for you the best new music of the week and beyond, putting together the best hard rock and metal music has to offer as a part of our playlist, Weekly Wire. Here's what you can expect:
This week, we've made our cover photo the legendary Black Sabbath, in tribute to their new live album release of The End. The album showcases their final live performance in their hometown of Birmingham, England. They played a set list of some of their best, most memorable songs written, and as such we've chosen "Iron Man" to kick off the playlist: a final recording of one of heavy metal's most important songs of all time.
We've also included the newest song by Stone Temple Pilots, "Meadow." The song is the first piece of music to feature newly revealed singer Jeff Gutt, who made his first appearance with the rest of the group at their most recent Troubadour show in Los Angeles. He's played in a variety of bands, and appeared on The X Factor back in 2012 and 2013.
There's also some new tracks from the foremost bands in rock and metal, including Green Day's new song "Back in the USA" off of their newest greatest hits collection, God's Favorite Band. The newly released deluxe edition of Skillet's Unleashed also comes represented by "Breaking Free," a track that features a guest turn by former Flyleaf singer Lacey Sturm.
Metal also came in full force, in a variety of subgenres and sizes. Tribulation released their new song "The Lament," Apocalyptica offered their epic sounding "The Symphony of Extremes" and Corrosion of Conformity's newest "Cast the First Stone" also makes the new Weekly Wire playlist. Plenty to dig into.
