Afropunk Festival 2014: Bad Brains, Cro-Mags, Body Count, Unlocking the Truth + More [Photos]
Some legendary acts made their way to this year’s Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn. Punk icons Bad Brains and Cro-Mags rocked Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn along with Body Count, Straight Line Stitch, Unlocking the Truth and more.
Trash Talk had an explosive set over on the Red Stage. While Ice-T and his crew in Body Count made their mark on the stage later that night as headliners.
Bad Brains (minus frontman H.R.) headlined one of the side stages, which was located in a basketball court in the back of the park. Guitarist Dr. Know stated, “They put us in the gutter, we’re here in the gutter and you all are right here with us.”
Diehard fans lost their minds and new school fans found out quickly what a Bad Brains show is all about. With H.R. missing from the lineup, a special appearance was made by the Cro-Mags own John Joseph, who provided vocals during Bad Brains' vigorous set.
Day two included female fronted metal act Straight Line Stitch, who obliterated the Green Stage. Songstress Alexis Brown relentlessly headbanged throughout the set while providing vocals ranging from deep gutturals to soulful melodies.
Over on the Black Stage, Brooklyn’s own trio of youngsters in Unlocking the Truth wowed fans as their tour mates Living Colour looked on in support.
Cro-Mags performed anthems such as ‘Sign of the Times,’ ‘Malfunction’ and ‘World Peace.’ Their sweat filled set was definitely a memorable one as frontman John Joseph was crushing to watch. The band as a whole had one of the most empowering and forceful performances of the enitre weekend. Check our photo gallery below of both days of Afropunk Festival 2014.
