Blink-182’s Matt Skiba Takes Credit for Fyre Festival Failure Thanks to Witchcraft
The total, utter failure of 2017's Fyre Festival is going to remain one of the funniest and most memorable moments of the year. While the organizers are currently facing nine lawsuits, people are still speculating about the fest, including Blink-182's Matt Skiba. In an interview with NME, Skiba recounts his feelings towards the festival, saying, "I had a bad feeling about the event."
"I consider myself a pagan and a witch," Skiba said. "With every inch of my energy I wanted Fyre not to happen. I put all the electricity and energy in my body against that thing happening.”
He gave a further opinion on the logistics of the festival itself, and its location in the Bahamas. "I’ve been to the Bahamas before and it’s so crass," says the vocalist. "You land in Nassau and the whole island is replete with beauty and culture, but there’s a lot of poverty. It is a largely black population then they build these places like Atlantis and the Cove that are walled off. It’s classist and racist and then they decided to park a bunch of yachts with models to show off in front of those poor people, going down there with all your Ferraris and bulls--t and yachts."
He wrapped his opinions up with a pointed comment saying, "We pulled out for technical and logistical issues, and the rest of it crumbled to s--t because that’s what it was. It was bulls--t. I used my witchy ways and it seemed to work. I’ll take responsibility and everyone can blame me.”
Time will tell what else Skiba will use his witchy powers for! He and the rest of Blink-182 will be playing some shows this summer, including two stadium dates with Linkin Park dubbed "Blinkin Park," which is absolutely some black magic if we've ever heard it.
