Chelsea Grin Heat Things Up in New York City with Carnifex, Sworn In and The Family Ruin
Chelsea Grin kicked off their obliterating set with the new track “Playing With Fire” and played other new songs “Pledge Allegiance” and “Clockwork.” The band is touring in promotion of their latest album Ashes to Ashes.
With low, guttural growls provided by vocalist Alex Koehler and heavy breakdowns from the rest of the band, the fans at Gramercy Theater completely erupted. It was clear that Chelsea Grin are a force as the NYC crowd lost their s—t during the very notable “Morta/Eterna,” “The Foolish One,” “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” and “My Damnation.”
The very memorable and very sweaty show had an encore that included “Cheyene Stokes” and “Recreant.”
California Deathcore act Carnifex also gave a crushing performance. Some of the younger fans might have been taken aback by the heaviness of their set ,but the crowd definitely warmed up as the band destroyed eardrums.
Despite being ill, frontman Tyler Dennen took the stage and Sworn In had one of the most memorable sets of the night. It was evident the force of Sworn In was seen as much in their fans as the band itself. The group is gearing up for their the release of their sophomore album, The Lovers/The Devil.
The Family Ruin kicked things off and started the night with an energetic performance. They definitely gained some new fans especially with it being their first time playing in New York City and we can’t wait until they make their way back.
