Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has rocked arenas worldwide, but on rare occasions the vocalist will treat audiences to a more intimate, club solo show. Last night (Feb. 20), the singer headlined an eclectic show at the Roxy in West Hollywood, Calif., titled Corey Taylor and Friends.

Things kicked off with a fiery performance from The Cherry Bombs—a group of professional dancers, aerialists, fire artists, hoopers, pole dancers and singers led by Alicia Dove. Next up was comedian Craig Gass with his unforgettable voice impressions, including Tracy Morgan, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley—he introduced Taylor in late comedian Sam Kinison’s voice. The comedian also told the audience to say “Happy birthday, mother f**ker” to Taylor after the first song. His birthday isn’t until December, but the crowd fell for it.

Taylor, his band—featuring guitarist Zach Throne, Ho9909 (Horror) drummer Brandon Pertzborn and Taylor’s best friend of the last two decades, bassist Jason Christopher—and some very special guests played a nearly two hour show consisting of 23 songs by various artists, but none by Taylor himself. Two songs in, Taylor said, “It’s good to be back in Hollywood. It’s been a long time since we’ve done this. The good news is, I’m not playing any of my own songs.”

After four songs, Taylor cut his finger and a fan gave him a bandage, which he joked wasn’t a name brand. Taylor played the first nine songs with his band before bringing out various guests.

The first guest of the night was Charlie Benante (Anthrax) on Black Sabbath’s “Fairies Wear Boots.” The guests kept coming with comedian Dean Delray, guitarist Jonah Nimoy (who filled in for Josh Rand on a Stone Sour tour), Ho9909 singer Eaddy, pro-skater/Black Flag vocalist Mike Vallely, Anthrax’s Scott Ian and wife Pearl Aday, and John 5. Gass also returned, using his Gene Simmons voice before John 5 came on to perform “C’mon and Love Me.” This very special evening ended with John 5 and Delray coming back for the Rolling Stone’s “Bitch.”
