Deftones just shared the official audio for “Doomed User,” another new track from the band’s eighth studio album, Gore.

We’ve already been privy to the ripping cut “Prayers / Triangles” and if “Doomed User” is any further indication of what’s to expect from Gore, we’re all in store for a monstrous record. “Doomed User” seemingly continues the trend of a densely heavy sound from Deftones, thanks heavily to guitarist Stephen Carpenter.

Funnily enough, Carpenter didn’t want to play on Gore to begin with. “When we were coming up with ideas and writing the songs, the stuff that was being written, you know, the other guys’ ideas, I wasn’t too interested in it,” Carpenter recently told Ultimate Guitar. “It wasn’t the style or the sound I was hoping we would take. It wasn’t what I was expecting or wanting.”

Carpenter spoke of his current passion for playing metal rather than Deftones’ traditional mixed sonic bag, but for “Doomed User,” Carpenter’s desire for change may have turned out to be the song’s greatest strength, as he harnesses a beefy metal tone throughout the cut.

Take a listen to “Doomed User” in the clip above. Deftones’ Gore is set for an April 8 release via Warner Bros. Records. To pre-order the album, click here.
