Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan has released another fresh cut from his upcoming solo album, Tenderness. But this time, the tune comes with a new album release date. Hear the bassist's shuffling new song "Chip Away" below.

Tenderness will be out May 31, and you can pre-order the album here. In a press release, McKagan explained the impetus behind "Chip Away," saying its earnest, acoustic sound was driven somewhat by the idea of conflict.

"'Chip Away' is somewhat of a rail against cable news and divisive agendas...all for the almighty dollar,” he said. “The song also highlights the fact that history repeats itself over and over, and that we will all get past this, together."

Last month, the musician unveiled the upcoming album's title track after revealing that Southern rock mainstay Shooter Jennings would produce the effort. In May, McKagan will play two solo shows backed by Jennings' band.

Earlier this week, the bassist unflinchingly described his greatest weakness in a series from Forbes that examined the strengths and flaws in people from all walks of life, including celebrities and other entertainment personalities.

Confessing alongside fellow musicians from bands such as Flogging Molly and New Found Glory, McKagan said a history of panic attacks and latent depression has been his "greatest weakness." But the bass player noted that physical activity and a more deliberate approach to alcohol consumption has helped him to overcome it:

"Probably my greatest weakness, I don't like to call it that anymore, that's part of the way I've gotten over it. At 16 I started having panic disorder. my first one happened out of nowhere. I was in the shower at my mom's house, the floor just sunk down three feet and I thought there was an earthquake or something. It was actually a panic attack. I self medicated those things in my 20s with a ton of alcohol. And they kind of ruled my life. Of course the more alcohol you drink the more sugars in your system the more panic attacks you're gonna have. Through Ukidokan and really measuring these things out and kind of tackling them and taking them face on and figuring out a way through them, it was a weakness I've turned into something that's a teachable moment. I can understand a lot more about mental illness and panic disorder that has sides of depression to it that I never experienced until a couple of years ago. I had a depression attack, which was the worst thing you can ever have. But I've dealt with this thing through Ukidokan and I'm very fortunate to have a very positive force in my life that I can work on these things. So my weakness has kind of turned into a a strength. I can help others."

Ukidokan is a style of kickboxing championed by martial arts expert Benny Urquidez. A few years ago, McKagan shared his love of the sport in a video clip that included excerpts from his 2011 book, It's So Easy: And Other Lies.
