It looks like Foo Fighters will start recording a new album next week, according to reports from the band's recent Rock in Rio performance. During the festival gig Sept. 28, Dave Grohl filled attendees in on the news.

The new album confirmation from the Foo Fighters bandleader and former Nirvana drummer follows Foo member Taylor Hawkins' similar update last month. In an interview, the drummer commented, "I think we'll have a new record by next year. We should." See video of the band's full Rock in Rio 2019 performance in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, down toward the bottom of this post.

"I don't know when we'll be back down here again, but we will," Dave told the Rock in Rio audience last Saturday night, as transcribed by Blabbermouth. "We go home next week and we start making a new Foo Fighters record." The rocker added of the imminent effort, "It's good, it's good."

The group still have two shows left on their current international run. They'll perform in Colombia and Costa Rica this week, before wrapping things up until December. Going by Grohl's latest comments, the intervening time will see the Foo Fighters start work on their tenth studio album.

Not that there's a dearth of Foo Fighters releases for fans to chew on. Released the day before Rock in Rio, the outfit covered Arcade Fire and the Dead Kennedys on the surprise 01070725 EP. A week prior, the Foos celebrated Area 51 Raid Day by sharing their 00050525 Live in Roswell EP.

But the band's last full-length record is 2017's Concrete and Gold, the ninth studio album from the rockers that spawned singles "The Line, "The Sky Is a Neighborhood" and "Run." Judging by the recent admissions from Grohl and Hawkins, however, a proper follow-up should emerge in 2020.
