Foo Fighters Welcome Ratt’s Bobby Blotzer at Love Ride Performance
Sometimes spur of the moment things can lead to lasting memories. That was the case this weekend when Foo Fighters took part in the 32nd Annual Love Ride in Castaic, Calif. and found themselves playing an impromptu cover song with Ratt's Bobby Blotzer behind the kit.
As can be seen in the fan-shot video above, the Foos rocked a cover of Queen's "Tie Your Mother Down" with Blotzer behind the drum kit while Taylor Hawkins stepped out to take lead vocals on the track.
Grohl revealed in his introduction, "As I was walking up here, walking up to the stage, I saw a drummer that I think is pretty f---ing cool. And you know how we do it, we just walk onstage and sometimes whatever happens happens. That's what I think is kind of fun about great rock music." Not long after he introduced Blotzer, and the band launched into the Queen classic.
Blotzer also posted about the experience, with additional video footage thrown in of him behind the kit for good measure. He stated in his posting, "I was happy to be invited out to see my longtime friends Foo Fighters at Sunday's annual Love Ride in Castaic, California. They are truly one of the five-star bands around and it was especially cool to be invited up to jam with them. They told me they had seen the new YouTube videos of Ratt and that they thought it sounded great. I told Dave [Grohl] and Taylor [Hawkins] that we would love to do some dates with them." Check out Blotzer's video posting below.
As anyone who has followed Foo Fighters this year is well aware, the band loves their classic rock covers and they are prone to inviting special guests to play with them at any time. From Perry Farrell to Sully Erna to Stevie Nicks to Jewel to Jack Black, you just never know who might show up.
