There’s a New Band The Warning You Should Get to Know – Here’s How
One of the more promising young bands to emerge in the rock scene in recent years are The Warning, a family act consisting of sisters Daniela (singer-guitarist), Alejandra (bassist) and Paulina (drummer) Villarreal. As The Warning continue support of their Mayday EP, they're sharing a bit of their unique history in a six-part docuseries, and today (March 14) the second installment is premiering exclusively here at Loudwire.
In this episode of their "Mayday in the Making" docuseries, the siblings reflect on their musical upbringing revealing how the band actually came to be. While each of the sisters gravitated to music at an early age, with Daniiela and Paulina starting on classical piano at ages 6 and 4 respectively, it was a video game that actually flipped the switch on their passion.
"We started with classical music and then bought this video game Rock Band," says Paulina. "When we bought the game, that was the moment where we were like, 'Hey, we wanna do that.'"
Alejandra recalls, "I picked the bass when I was about 6 or 7 and I was like, 'I wanna play that. I don't know what it is, but I want to play it.' And we were like, 'Oh, these three instruments actually make up a band,' so we started playing together."
Playing Rock Band is one thing, but as the sisters began to pick up musical instruments and play together, they decided to upload some performances to YouTube as a way to share their progress with their grandparents. But to their surprise, the videos garnered even more attention than just the family they had alerted. In fact, their 2014 cover of Metallica's "Enter Sandman" has surpassed over 23 million views on YouTube.
Within this episode, the sisters discuss how that early response transitioned to taking the idea of a band more seriously, who suggested that they start writing their own music and the sacrifices they made during their teen years to get to where they are now. It's been a meteoric journey with plenty of "whoa" moments for the sisters. You can watch the full "How It All Began" episode, which is the second episode in the series, below.
