The wait is almost over for Gojira’s sixth studio album, Magma! To help get your through these last few days, the French metallers have released the new track “The Shooting Star” for your hungry ears.

“The Shooting Star” is the opening track to Magma and it’s pretty unique compared to the rest of the album. Though the grooves remain heavy, Joe Duplantier’s vocal approach remains low-key and almost monotonic at times. It’s a great mood piece to introduce the album to fans before crunching away for its remaining 38 minutes.

Magma was largely influenced by the death of frontman Joe and drummer Mario Duplantier’s mother, allowing the brothers to create an extremely emotional listen. “Everything we go through in life inspires us to write songs and this was like an earth-shattering event,” Joe recently told us. “For us being musicians, it’s a way to cope with life in general, so of course for a moment that intense and that important there’s no other way than expressing it in the music. It’s still hard, it’s not because you write about it, it becomes easy but it helps for sure. This album is full of that experience.”

Magma is already receiving stellar reviews from metal outlets. Gojira’s latest work is now available for pre-order and will see an official release June 17.
