Headbanging ‘Sign Slayer’ Increases Pizza Shop’s Profits by 40 Percent
Sometimes the world produces a hero we both need and deserve! Meet the South Arlington sign slayer, a man whose headbanging antics has increased a Texas pizza business’ sales by 40 percent.
Over the past two years, Michael Hildreth has been living the dream. The dude is literally being paid to listen to metal and headbang all day while holding a sign for pizza chain Papa Murphy’s. His talents turned a punishment from his boss into a way to make a living, with Hildreth becoming a local celebrity in the meantime.
“I kept showing up late for work over the course of about a month, a month and a half or something,” Hildreth tells CBS. “My boss got a little irritated with me, so he sent me outside as a punishment.” Instead of just holding or flipping the sign, Michael used it as a guitar and began crushing the streets. “I don’t like the idea of being bored while you’re working,” the sign slayer added.
Hildreth’s favorite bands to headbang to include Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Cannibal Corpse and, of course, Slayer. Though he’s developed a fan base of passerbys, not everyone understands Hildreth’s passion for public headbanging. “Some lady didn’t know who I was, so she called the cops [and] stated that there was a local man on the corner acting like he was high,” the metalhead explains.
