Yesterday (Aug. 18) marked the 19th birthday of Frances Bean Cobain, the sole child of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Hole frontwoman Courtney Love. And just in time for her big celebration, Frances has come out of hiding in a new series of photos that reinvent the tattooed wild child as a classic beauty in step with the iconic starlets of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Just last week a series of edgy black-and-white shots by photographer Hedi Slimane surfaced online, showing a young woman who had grown into her body -- a thin, heavily inked body with a full-tilt rocker style to match. The pics were met with a collective fervor as fashion bloggers and rock scribes the world over rushed to proclaim Frances the new "It Girl." The New York Times even called the whole thing “one of the most anticipated comings of age in recent pop cultural history.”

Now for round two. A new series of FBC photos has surfaced, this time shot by Los Angeles-based photographer Rocky Schenck and this time showing a completely different side of Francis.

Remember that brief period in the late ‘90s when post-'The People Versus Larry Flynt' Courtney Love wiped the smudged eyeliner off her face and started wearing Versace dresses, primping for an Academy Award nomination and generally doing a pretty good job convincing us that not only was she not crazy, but in fact a graceful star who could hold her own alongside Hollywood's glamor queens. That didn't last long.

After last week's photos surfaced, Love beamed like any proud parent would, despite not having actually seen her daughter in some time.

“I didn’t know she had that many tattoos! We don’t talk but we email, so I didn’t know about the new ones she’d gotten,” said Love. “And I didn’t know about the smoking -- wonder where she gets that from!”

Love's conclusion? “Well yeah she’s beautiful,” she added. “What else did you expect! She’s my kid!”

Happy birthday, Frances Bean Cobain.
