Every once in a while, metalheads may miss out on a solid song just because it's in a different genre. That's where the guys from UMC come in. Drummer Tobias Derer and guitarist Nils Lesser have been re-imagining some top pop songs as metal tracks via their Ultimate Metal Covers YouTube channel. For their latest performance, they've chosen Ed Sheeran's current Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper "Shape of You" and covered it with the help of vocalist Brian Storm.

For those familiar with Sheeran's current pop hit, you know it has a very distinctive xylophone sound and that remains intact here, driving the early part of the song. In the video above, the sound is created via a keyboard, and Storm initially mirrors the rhythm and patter of Sheeran's single.

However, It's not long before the song takes its first steps away from the original, with Lesser's guitar work garnering attention and Derer's double kick mastery behind the drum kit giving it that extra oomph. Soon after, Storm's vocals get more guttural in parts as well. Take a listen above.

As stated, the UMC guys have built up a solid collection of metal covers of pop songs, taking on the likes of Jason Derulo's "Wiggle," DNCE's "Cake by the Ocean" and Pharrell Williams' "Happy" among others. If you want to dig in further to see what all they've covered and how they pulled it off, head to their YouTube channel here.

Meanwhile, to keep the covers going, the guys have also started up a special page where you can become a patreon and donate. Check it out here.
