Motorhead keep rocking, but as anyone who has followed the band knows, there's the occasional health issue that's slowed them a bit in recent years. One such issue came up over the weekend as Motorhead had to bow out of the Monsters of Rock festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil when Lemmy Kilmister came down ill.

According to Blabbermouth, the rocker was "suffering from gastric distress and dehydration" and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Though Lemmy had to bow out, fans were reportedly treated to a little bit of Motorhead as guitarist Phil Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee took part in a jam session with Sepultura's Andreas Kisser and Derrick Green along with other guests.

Lemmy Kilmister had a difficult 2013 in which he suffered a haematoma, was fitted with a pacemaker for an irregular heartbeat and had issues with diabetes. In the time since, he's changed some of his lifestyle habits and has returned to the stage.

He recently told Full Metal Jackie, "I stopped smoking about two years ago but I started smoking again, but I'm only doing a pack a week as opposed to two packs a day, which I was doing. I stopped drinking Coca-Cola. I haven't had a Coke in two years because I think they're evil. Ten spoons of sugar in a can of Coke and I've go diabetes." He added, "I drink vodka and orange now."

Last fall, Lemmy stated, "During my last surgery, I was close to death. It was the only moment I was stalked by the devil called doubt. I wondered if I'd make it." He added, "I'm not afraid of death -- I often sing about it. So I wasn't shaking in my bed, but I did have the feeling I wasn't done yet. I still wanted to do shows and make records. That feeling pulled me through all this."

Update: Motorhead issued a statement after Lemmy's weekend ailment. It reads as follows: Due to a food related tummy problem, unfortunately Lemmy was not able to perform the show in São Paulo. He is already feeling much better and ready to continue the South America dates! Next stop Curitiba! Lemmy regrets this mishap very much and is looking forward to making it up to all the fans.
