Periphery Members Release ‘Shadow of the Day’ Tribute to Chester Bennington
Chester Bennington's death is affecting musicians of all stripes and genres, including progressive metal band Periphery. Over the past weekend, the group released a cover of Linkin Park's single "Shadow of the Day."
It's kept to a only a couple members of Periphery, singer Spencer Sotelo and Matt Halpern, as well as producer Taylor Larsen. It's a minimal cover, featuring electronic elements that you can sink your teeth into. Sotelo's vocals are heartfelt and help transform the song into something else. It's a great way to take on the song, translating the great melody already embedded in the song. It's also hard not to feel like the song takes on a new meaning and feeling after the recent tragedy. It's still as amazing a song as ever.
Support for Bennington has been spilling out from numerous different people. Recently, metalcore band Motionless In White took to covering Linkin Park's classic single "One Step Closer" live. Numerous bands have been dedicating their live performances to Bennington and the rest of the band. Seether dedicated their Rise Above Festival to the memory of Bennington and Chris Cornell.
Today, Linkin Park released a statement about Chester, saying, "You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realized. In the past few days, we’ve seen an outpouring of love and support, both public and private, from around the world. Talinda and the family appreciate it, and want the world to know that you were the best husband, son, and father; the family will never be whole without you." You can read the full statement here.
