The 2013 Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival already has quite an impressive lineup with Alice in Chains and Jane’s Addiction leading the charge but now the festival is opening up the opportunity for unsigned bands to compete for a once in a lifetime chance to perform on the tour.

The 2013 Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands kicks off today (July 1) and runs through Sept. 1. Bands can enter the competition for a chance to perform on the Zippo Encore Festival Stage powered by Ernie Ball in their particular market on the official website here. Bands will need to provide at least one MP3 to be considered and fans can vote to send their favorite bands to the stage.

The finalists will compete for the grand prize which includes a permanent spot on next year’s tour and the chance to record an EP with famed producer Jay Baumgardner at NRG Recording Studios in Hollywood, Calif., a record deal, $10,000 in gear and national radio exposure.

The final judges for the 2013 Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands include heavyweights Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains and Duff McKagan formerly of Guns N’ Roses and now playing with Walking Papers. McKagan commented on the competition, saying “For new bands willing to work hard, this is a great opportunity to gain new fans and expose yourself to a national audience. I’m looking forward to checking out these up-and-coming bands and helping to discover new talent.”
