Stone Sour have enlisted the drumming prowess of ex-Dream Theater stickman Mike Portnoy for their upcoming one-off show at the Rock in Rio Festival in Brazil on Sept. 24.

Roy Mayorga, Stone Sour’s permanent skin basher, is anxiously awaiting the birth of his first daughter and her due date happens to be, you guessed it, the same day as the band's Rock in Rio gig.  Mayorga, a friend of Portnoy’s, reached out to him personally to ask him to fill in and Portnoy was happy to oblige stating, “It's my honor and pleasure to be able to help out my good friends in Stone Sour and my brother Roy in their time of need. It's also an unexpected treat for me to get another visit with some of the greatest fans in the world down in Brazil.”

So, its full steam ahead for Stone Sour and the band is happy to have Portnoy on board for the epic event. Stone Sour singer Corey Taylor commented, saying "We've been waiting a long time for the opportunity to come to South America. This year's Rock in Rio should be fantastic. With Roy expecting his first child, we'll charge on without him, but having Mike fill in for this one show will be great. We can't wait to take the stage and lay it down the only way Stone Sour knows how: full on and in your face!"

So congratulations to Roy Mayorga on the impending addition to his family and good luck to Stone Sour on their monumental show!

Stone Sour have also announced that they are working on a new EP/DVD due out this winter.
