The Offspring have announced their inclusion in the massively multiplayer online game World of Tanks, where the SoCal pop-punk stalwarts will perform virtually inside the game beginning Sept. 18.

The free-to-play World of Tanks is a military-themed, team-based game first launched in 2010. It's "dedicated to mid-20th century armored tank combat," according to game developer Wargaming. See the Offspring's World of Tanks announcement down toward the bottom of this post.

"We're excited to announce that @worldoftanks has invited us to perform inside their game," the band revealed Sunday (Sept. 15). "Beginning Sept 18 you can join us on a virtual stage right in #WorldofTanks. The game has never seen anything like this before, so we're excited to be the first!"

It's not the first time that a rock band has cropped up within the virtual environs of a game. Last month, Korn performed a mini-concert inside the video games AdventureQuest 3D and AQ Worlds.

For fans wishing to catch the Offspring live in concert in the flesh, the group will tour Canada with Sum 41 later in the year. It's the first time the band will set out on the road since countering a lawsuit from former bassist Greg Kriesel (aka Greg K). Earlier this summer, guitarist Noodles confirmed that a new album from the Offspring is finally complete, with "plans for photo shoots and videos" said to be underway.
