Alien Ant Farm Singer Dryden Mitchell Plays ‘Would You Rather?’

Alien Ant Farm have been around for nearly 20 years and they are just as fun and quirky live as they've ever been. We caught up with frontman Dryden Mitchell at the band's recent New York gig, and he agreed to play a game of ‘Would You Rather?’ with us. Mitchell talks about music making him feel good, why he prefers smaller club shows, what he thinks about mosh pits and much more. Would your rather be late for a show or mess up onstage?

I’d rather be late for a show and hopefully make up for it onstage. Mess ups onstage, they’re not fun or funny or cool.

Would you rather have a massive bank account or a massive fan base?

If you have a massive fan base, odds are you’ll have a massive bank account. I’m going to say fans. Music makes me feel good and the more people we can play to makes me feel even better.

Would you rather be in the studio or on tour?

I’d rather be in the studio. It’s weird, I’d rather be in the studio dicking around and not making an album. If it was making a record, then I’d rather be on tour.

Would you rather tour with a band that you didn’t respect or tour with a band that didn’t respect you?

Probably one that I didn’t respect because I know I could be cordial and deal with it. If it's a band that didn’t respect you, you don’t really have any control over how they’re going to treat you, and we’ve been in those situations before.

Would you rather live in a world where people break into song or where people break into mosh pits?

[Laughs] Song, because mosh pits are for middle schoolers and I’m not in middle school.

Would you rather play small clubs forever or big festivals forever?

I’d rather play small clubs. It’s just sweaty and it just feels like you did something. Obviously at festivals you feel the same way too, but personally I just like the smaller clubs.

Would you rather be an ‘80s band in present day or Alien Ant Farm in the ‘80s?

[Laughs] I would definitely rather be Alien Ant Farm in the ‘80s.
