Over the last few years, TV has enjoyed some ratings gold with the staging of live musicals. FOX tried their hand at it Sunday night (March 20) with The Passion, an updated modern day version of the story of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection. The production was mostly live and broadcast from New Orleans, featured actors like Tyler Perry and Telenovela's Jencarlos Canela joined by musicians Chris Daughtry, Seal, Prince Royce and Trisha Yearwood in the cast. But it should also be noted that a number of modern day rock hits found their way into the production as well.

As seen in the video above Jencarlos Canela, who portrayed Jesus in the production, uses Creed's "With Arms Wide Open" as he addresses his apostles for one final meal. And yes, in this adaptation of the death and resurrection of Jesus, the apostles all have microphones and in-ear monitors.

You'll also find Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" included in the production. Chris Daughtry belts the song as Judas uses the track to express his internal battle with turning his back on Jesus. The performance earned praise from the song's originator, Amy Lee, who tweeted:

And later, Daughtry and Canela duet on Imagine Dragons' "Demons," while Hoobastank's "The Reason" has Prince Royce as Peter wandering the streets trying to deny he knows Jesus. You can watch the Evanescence, Imagine Dragons and Hoobastank covers below.

The Passion drew 6.6 million viewers and a 1.6 demo rating according to TV Line, which was down 46 and 63 percent from what the network's Grease Live production did in January.
