Deafheaven Vocalist George Clarke Plays ‘Would You Rather?’
In our latest installment of ‘Would You Rather?’ we chat with Deafheaven frontman George Clarke who expresses his fondness for small club shows and being in the studio. He also reveals a few very different musicians that he would like to hang out with from a legendary metal guitarist to a couple of hip-hop moguls. Check out our game of ‘Would You Rather?’ with George Clarke of Deafheaven below:
Would you rather be late for a show or mess up onstage?
I would rather be late for a show because if you put on a great one hopefully fans won’t mind your tardiness.
Would you rather play big festivals forever or small club shows forever?
That’s hard because both give you a different sort of rush. I would say clubs shows because that scene is important for what we do and it’s fun to play for the people that really want to see you.
Would you rather have a massive bank account or a massive fanbase?
One usually precedes the other but I’ll take the more integral route and say fanbase. I would like to work hard and get fans and if that translates into money I won’t be mad at that either.
Would you rather be on tour or in the studio?
You know what, I’m going to say studio right now. It fluctuates. I was always a touring person but if you have time and the ability there’s nothing quite like creating something new.
Would you rather have an accordion for legs or drumsticks for hands?
Drumsticks for hands for sure. I’m tapping on things all day any way so might as well make it sounds good. I can give our drummer a break during shows. I can rush over to him if I have drumstick hands but if I have accordion legs it’s going to take me a while.
Would you rather have lunch with a music icon who has passed away or one currently alive, who would it be?
Oh that’s hard, I don’t know. I’m going to go with a split answer here, if deceased maybe Dimebag – that would be a huge one. Pantera’s one of my favorite bands of all time, I saw them perform on their last tour, the Extreme Steel tour when I was 12-years-old. If it was someone currently living probably P. Diddy or maybe Jay-Z, someone who’s a mogul that can inform me on things I was completely unaware of. I just think they would be interesting to talk to, they’ve been around for so long and lived a pretty crazy life. I’m sure it would be pretty entertaining.
