Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Joan Jett + More Nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has just revealed its contenders for its class of 2015 inductees, and among the nominees are Green Day and Nine Inch Nails.
Right now, fans can head over to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's website and choose up to five acts they believe to be worthy of induction. The fan vote poll has a total of 15 acts to choose from, so think hard before you cast your ballot.
The five acts that receive the greatest amount of votes will comprise a fans’ ballot that will be tallied along with the other ballots from music luminaries and experts to choose the 2015 inductees. This is the third consecutive year that the Rock Hall has given fans an outlet to vote their favorite acts into contention.
As of this posting, Green Day have accumulated the most fan votes, followed closely by Nine Inch Nails. The late Stevie Ray Vaughan is currently in third place, as Lou Reed and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts have spots No. 4 and 5, respectively.
To become eligible for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction this year, an act's first single or album must have been released in 1989 or earlier. Green Day's debut EP, '1,000 Hours,' came out in April 1989, while Nine Inch Nails' iconic 'Pretty Hate Machine' album hit shelves in October 1989. Both bands are the only nominated acts to appear on the 2015 ballot in their first year of eligibility.
Among the other 2015 nominees are Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lou Reed, the Smiths, Bill Withers, Sting, the Spinners, War, N.W.A., Kraftwerk, the Marvelettes, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Chic.
