Maylene and the Sons of Disaster Announce First Reunion Show
Welcome back, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. The band has reunited and they've announced their first show back will take place this September at Furnace Fest taking place at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama the weekend of Sept. 23-25.
The band's future was placed in serious doubt after frontman Dallas Taylor was significantly injured in a 2016 ATV accident. At the time of his accident, Taylor reported that he broke every bone in his face, cracked his skull, broke his arms, incurred significant eye and jaw damage, ripped his ear canal and had bleeding in his lungs and in the brain. In addition, he suffered a stroke from the trauma of the incident.
In 2018, the musician's mother offered another health date in which she revealed continued issues with the singer's adrenal gland and thyroid problems, while he was also set to undergo eye surgery. In 2021, another update from Taylor's mother followed revealing that he had double eye surgery in order to stave off blindness resulting from his eyes' inability to generate moisture.
But earlier this year, discussion of Taylor's return to music started to circulate as the singer took part in a video shoot in early January. Now comes word of a Maylene and the Sons of Disaster show, set to take place this fall.
"Miracles do exist! I shouldn’t be alive much less able to function more than a toddler like stage. I am so blessed, and thankful for everyone that’s stuck by me, and believed in me. I can never thank all of you enough. I hope to see as many of you come, and share the moment with me," said Taylor in a Facebook posting announcing the show.
Meanwhile, Furnace Fest's organizer offered their own statement that read, "Who's floored??? December 1997 is the first time Dallas Taylor freaked me out (see the photos for proof). During the day, he was a kind-hearted kid. Talking Jesus, his parents, how cool it was to be on his first tour (Underoath supporting Sleeping By the Riverside), and how Aaron Gillespie was a prodigy. Dallas was eager, naive, lovable. Then he stepped onstage, and I knew instantly two things: Underoath had potential galore. Dallas was the sweetest savage I'd ever met; almost too comfortable brutalizing his body onstage.
Dallas is one-of-a-kind, he's experienced more pain in life than most of us put together, and the odds of him performing on stage again were slim to none. Reuniting with long-standing friends is one of the ingredients that make Furnace Fest so beautiful. Furnace Fest family, it's with great joy that we welcome Dallas and the boys to Furnace Fest 2022."
The Birmingham-bred band emerged in 2005 with their self-titled debut. Every album since has been designated by a roman numeral title, with IV being their most recent offering back in 2011.
Which day of Furnace Fest the band will be playing has not yet been confirmed, but you can learn more about the festival and get tickets at this location.
