Shinedown released Threat to Survival, their fifth studio album, just over a year ago. The band has toured relentlessly behind the disc, which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and has ramped up the buzz once more with a music video for the emotionally striking "How Did You Love."

The video opens up with an overhead light switching on alongside a heart-stopping thud before a man provides some spoken word food for thought, setting up the reflective theme of "How Did You Love." The band plays in a sepia-toned warehouse as abstract shots are spliced in, showing walls of a house falling down during the line "Nobody gets out alive / every day is do or die."

Speaking about the song, frontman Brent Smith says, "I was in a very unique place in my life while we were writing the album Threat To Survival and there are very specific, heavy themes throughout it. This song 'How Did You Love' is about understanding and respecting your own mortality. Not in a morbid, negative way, but in a way that inspires you to live each day to its fullest and without regret, especially when it comes to your relationships and your individuality. You need to be at peace and proud when you look back and ask yourself, 'How did you love?'"

Catch Shinedown on the road this fall as they team up with Five Finger Death Punch on a co-headlining tour. The trek will launch from Little Rock, Ark., on Oct. 18 and extend through Dec. 10. All dates can be found at our 2016 Guide to Rock + Metal Tours.
