Skillet Drummer Jen Ledger Prepping Debut Solo EP
If you've caught Skillet in recent years, you know that while John Cooper may lead things up front, they've got a not-so-secret weapon behind the kit in Jen Ledger. The drummer is about to step out from the band to release her first solo offering.
According to Billboard, Ledger recently inked a deal with Atlantic Records and the Hear It Loud imprint, which is run by Skillet's husband-wife team of John and Korey Cooper, to issue her Ledger EP on April 13.
"I feel I’ve just been growing and changing over the last few years and I feel the time is now," Ledger explained to Billboard. "It just feels like everything is lined up all at once. It’s super exciting because it is a little bit of a destiny moment."
“Over the last couple of years, the Coopers have really been training me, helping me on my writing and really helping me find my own unique style,” says Ledger, who adds, “I’m not just mini-Skillet. I’m edgy and rocky, but I’m also soft and got a little bit of pop in me too. They’ve been helping me find out not only who I am musically, but also who I am as a person and what do I want to say.”
Though it is a solo disc, the Skillet ties are still there with Korey Cooper serving as co-producer on the release along with Seth Moseley. And Ledger actually won't miss any time while promoting her new EP as her full band Ledger will serve as the opening act for Skillet on their upcoming "Unleashed" tour, which starts April 12.
“We’re all on the same team and we’re all kind of mixed into everything,” Ledger says. “John is actually going to be singing on one of my songs and Korey is co-producing all of it and writing it with me, so it’s ridiculously perfect. I get to do everything I want and have the best of both worlds.”
Keep an eye out for Ledger's self-titled debut EP on April 13 and catch them opening for Skillet this spring. Dates for the touring can be found here.
