Stone Temple Pilots returned to the stage late last week with singer Justin Wright fronting the band. But while the band is currently looking for a new vocalist, bassist Robert DeLeo revealed during the show that Wright's appearance was a "one night only" gig.

According to Alternative Nation, the Thursday show (May 12) was a benefit for South Shores Magnet and took place at the Grand Warner Theatre in San Pedro, Calif., with the band also sharing the stage with Wright's father, "Dream Weaver" singer Gary Wright.

"We're gonna do some different versions of a few songs we've written over the years and Justin's gonna fill-in tonight," revealed bassist Robert DeLeo, just before the band played a stripped back rendition of "Big Empty," seen in the fan-shot video above. During their portion of the mini-set, the younger Wright also fronted STP on "Plush" and "Interstate Love Song," as seen in the fan-shot video above.

As stated, the show also featured Gary Wright, Justin's father, who played covers of Spooky Tooth's "Better By You, Better Than Me" and George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as well as his own "Dream Weaver" and "Love Is Alive" while backed by the Stone Temple Pilots members.

Earlier this year, Stone Temple Pilots performed another benefit show with Chester Bennington returning for vocal duties. Gary Wright was also part of that show, and the connection is that Wright is one of Robert DeLeo's neighbors and friends.

DeLeo told us, "Gary is like my dad, man. He really is a wonderful person and has given me a lot of guidance. He was friends with George Harrison, very good friends and studied a lot from George as far as meditation and spiritualism. It’s nice to have that energy in my life. I value that."

As for the band's search for a new singer, the bassist stated earlier this year that there was no set specifications for what they were looking for in a vocalist, but one quality for sure should be there. "It’s just looking for greatness," explained DeLeo. "I don’t really have a preference of age or color, I just want someone to have greatness."
