Volbeat ‘Seal the Deal’ and Boogie in Brooklyn With Killswitch Engage + Black Wizard
The first song Volbeat cranked out was their current single “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown” off of their latest album Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie. A lot of the set showcased new tracks, with “The Gates of Babylon,” “Let It Burn” and “Black Rose” (which features Danko Jones on the album) getting a fresh look in sets. Frontman Michael Poulsen and guitarist Rob Caggiano were all smiles as “Sad Man’s Tongue,” the fast-paced “16 Dollars,” “Pool of Booze, Booze, Booza” and “The Mirror and the Ripper” had everyone moving and singing.
A special moment of the set was when the band performed their cover of the Misfits’ “Angelfuck” and the one and only Jerry Only graced the stage to perform it with them. The encore included anthems “Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood” and they “counted all the a—holes in the room” as everyone belted out “Still Counting.”
Killswitch Engage obliterated the room beforehand with brand new tracks “Strength of the Mind” and “Cut Me Loose” off of their latest release Incarnate pummeling the crowd. Frontman Jesse Leach doesn’t shy away from voicing his opinion on the current state of society and politics. On this night, his words to the crowd were to spread love and do away with ignorance. This led into the powerful track “Hate By Design.”
Although they might have been too heavy for some Volbeat fans, softer songs like “Always” and the melodic choruses of “Rose of Sharyn,” “My Last Seranade” and “The End of Heartache” made them a great fit as support on the tour.
Canadian act Black Wizard opened up the show, playing their very first gig in New York City. The band is touring in support of their new LP New Waste. Check out our photo gallery above of all of the bands performing in Brooklyn.
