Defying classification, Black Violin have pulled from rock, hip-hop and classical and seen their star rise as artists from a variety of genres have taken notice. They've opened shows for Mike Shinoda, collaborated with Aerosmith, Wu Tang Clan, Alessia Cara and 2 Chainz and more. And now Black Violin are set to unleash their latest musical exploration with the Take the Stairs album arriving on Nov. 1.
The new song "One Step" is an optimistic rock track with an edge. Black Violin's Kev Marcus tells us, 'One Step' is a dramatic soundscape that we hope will inspire the listener to evaluate their present state and take action to better their future. Everyone deserves opportunity and a prosperous and safe future and this is about taking that first step toward realizing you are in control of your future."
He continues, "We wrote this song with the idea that music can transport the listener to great heights and lyrics can enact change for the better and that what Black Violin’s mission has always been."
Marcus and Black Violin cohort Wil Baptiste met on the first day of orchestra class in 1996 at Dillard High School of the Performing Arts and have developed their unique sound stylings ever since.
For the new album, Baptiste says, “We had a wall that we wrote stuff on. We had all the ideas about what story we were going to convey. And it kept coming back to the idea of hope—songs that spoke about going against the grain, carrying through struggle, being optimistic. We wanted to say, ‘it’s tough out there, but don’t give up.’"
As stated, the Take the Stairs album is coming soon, arriving on Nov. 1. Get your pre-orders taken care of here. Black Violin are currently finishing out the year with a major U.S. tour.
