Welcome to Epic Rock Tales, where rock and metal’s most legendary stories come to life in exclusive animation! In this episode, Slipknot / Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor shares his early drug use, a suicide attempt at age 18 and how Faith No More sparked his musical reawakening.

Corey told us this tale during Part 1 of his ‘Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction?’ segment. Corey spoke extremely candidly about the events, which started at the young age of 10. Corey began to smoke cigarettes at that age, moving on to weed when he was 12. By age 13, he had begun taking cocaine and speed. At age 15, Corey Taylor had already overdosed twice.

Fast forward to age 18, Corey chose to take his own life. After overdosing on pills, Taylor was found by his girlfriend’s mother and rushed to the hospital, where he was fed ipecac to induce vomiting. This is only the beginning of Corey’s story.

At which he called the lowest point of his life, Corey was saved by music. Watching the 1990 MTV VMAs, the future metal legend would become inspired by a certain performance. In this animation, Corey describes how important this turning point was, so watch for yourselves in the clip above!
