The United States is no stranger to electing celebrities to political positions, having seen Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clint Eastwood and, most recently, Donald Trump all take office. Could Robert Ritchie, best known under the pseudonym Kid Rock, become the next?

No official decision has been made as of yet, but RollCall reports that Kid Rock's name was suggested by Michigan GOP members as a possible candidate for Senator at Michigan's Republican party convention last week. The seat has been locked down by Democrat Debbie Stabenow since 2000, though with Trump being the first Republican to win the state since 1988, the GOP is feeling hopeful at the chance to shake up the Senate position.

If given the chance to run, Kid Rock can make good on the "paint his town red" lyric from the 1998 smash hit "Cowboy." Despite describing himself as "more libertarian" when speaking with Rolling Stone back in 2013, Kid Rock has been a staunch Republican supporter, backing Mitt Romney for President in 2012. He initially rallied behind Ben Carson in the most recent election, but then switched to Donald Trump.

In early December, the rocker added some controversial pro-Trump merchandise to his webstore. One shirt showed the election map of red and blue states, labeling the blue ones as "Dumbf--kistan," one that read "God, Guns & Trump" in red, white and blue text and another that said, "_onald Trump — The 'D' Is Missing Because It's in Every Hater's Mouth."
