The passing of GWAR guitarist and metal mastermind Cory 'Flattus Maximus' Smoot left a gaping hole in the world of metal, as fans worldwide mourned the death of Smoot in a number of ways. Although the strummer / alien has departed this Earth, his legacy now lives on through his kin, as Smoot's daughter, Corie, was born last night.

As GWAR were crossing the Canadian border on the night of Nov. 3, 2011, Smoot was found dead in his bunk only hours after a performance in Minneapolis. After medical examination, Smoot's cause of death was ruled as "coronary thrombosis brought about by his pre-existing coronary artery disease." Since Smoot's passing, there have been two benefit shows in his home town of Richmond, Va., and countless tributes from musicians and fans online.

Last night, GWAR were able to break a much happier, yet bittersweet, story regarding their beloved guitarist, as his widow Jaime gave birth to the couple's first child:

At 7:00 p.m. baby Corie was born. Mother and child are resting comfortably. She's a big baby at 8lbs. 1 oz. and is perfectly healthy. There will be pictures soon. The spawn of Flattus crawls the Earth.

Congratulations to Jaime and her newborn daughter, Corie. Hopefully the two can take some comfort from the fact that Smoot was able to enrich the lives of thousands of fans with his music.
