ShipRocked 2015 Day 1: Limp Bizkit, Tremonti, Lacuna Coil, Andrew W.K. + More
Following a pre-cruise Super Bowl party the day prior, we set sail from Miami on our way to the Great Stirrup Cay – a familiar little place to past ShipRockers. The ShipRocked family gathered together once again to booze it up, tear it down and have a damn good time!
Limp Bizkit kicked things off as we were off to the Bahamas aboard the Norwegian Pearl. Captain Fred Durst addressed the crowd underneath the sunny sky and got the party started. Durst is incredibly engaging with fans and made his way into the crowd numerous times during the set.
The band cranked out all the familiar tracks we know and love -- from ‘My Generation’ and ‘Break Stuff’ to ‘Rollin’’ and ‘My Way,’ just to name a few. Guitarist Wes Borland sure knows how to steal the show ,as he was obviously the best dressed dude of the day, donning underwear (no pants necessary), cowboy boots, a floral shirt, face-paint and a finely drawn on mustache that only a true gentleman can pull off.
During the exhilarating set, one fan was even brave enough to hop onstage and dance with Durst while another rapped word for word onstage to DMX’s ‘Up In Here.’ (See photos of all the antics in the gallery below.)
Over in the Stardust Theater, Mark Tremonti and his band filled the space with songs from the debut album ‘All I Was’ as well as some brand new tracks from their forthcoming disc. One heavy hitting fresh track that stood out to fans was ‘Cauterize.’
Buckcherry "lit up" the Stardust Theater later that evening with a vivacious, nonstop performance. Meanwhile, Lacuna Coil fans were in for a real treat as the Italian metallers performed with intensity in an intimate space at the Spinnaker Lounge.
Wherever there is a party…there is Andrew W.K., who completely left his mark in the Atrium. The space and stage is much too small for his vigor, talent and fortitude. When you go see Andrew W.K., it’s a sensory overload and fans love it.
Cilver and Gemini Syndrome also took hold of the Atrium Stage right in the lobby of the Norwegian Pearl for some energetic performances.
The Deck Stage was filled with talent throughout the day as Filter and P.O.D. performed powerful sets. Nonpoint made a dent in the deck as they rounded out the first night. But who are we kidding? The fun aboard Shiprocked is endless and only just beginning.
