Slipknot and Korn Bring ‘Em ‘Hell’ in New Jersey
Slipknot’s “Prepare for Hell” tour may have ended but it was easily one of the best of the year. The trek was a metal fan's dream, especially when support came from heavy hitters Korn and King 810. When these bands came to New Jersey, they made East Coast metal heads very happy and the structure of the Izod Center may never be the same.
Slipknot are pure mayhem onstage and that’s the way we like it. With spinning percussive instruments, lots of pyro and a hellish, carnivalesque set, they have one of the best live shows in metal today. The band belted out new tracks like 'Sarcastrophe' and 'The Devil In I,' and whipped the audience into a frenzy when 'Vermillion,' 'Before I Forget' and 'Duality' filled the arena.
The energy multiplied tenfold when older favorites 'Spit It Out' and 'Wait and Bleed' were performed. Shawn “Clown” Crahan hopped offstage into the crowd and made his way to the soundboard, ripped all of the balloons off the said soundboard and went around Izod center to terrorize the crowd ... and they loved it.
The unforgettable night ended with an animosity filled performance of 'People=Sh-t' and the anthem for all maggots, 'Surfacing.'
Korn took the stage beforehand and ripped through their flawless set by starting out with the one-two punch of 'Twist' and 'Here to Stay.' They also performed newer, infectious tracks 'Love & Meth' and 'Hater,' which got the crowd bouncing.
Things only escalated when frontman Jonathan Davis graced the stage with his trusty bagpipes for the start of 'Shoots in Ladders,' which ended with an obliterating snippet of Metallica’s 'One.' With beer and sweat filling the air, Korn’s incredible performance wrapped up with the infamous 'Freak on a Leash' and 'Blind.'
King 810 are pure aggression and absolutely relentless live. 2014 has been a huge year for the band and it doesn’t look like they’re slowing down any time soon. Their ruthless set in Jersey was proof enough that they are a band to watch out for.
