Slipknot’s ‘We Are Not Your Kind’ Marks Third Consecutive No. 1 Billboard 200 Debut
Congratulations to Slipknot, who have scored their third consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 charts with We Are Not Your Kind.
Billboard reports that this is the first time a hard rock or heavy metal album has debuted at the top spot since Foo Fighters released Concrete and Gold in 2017. We Are Not Your Kind also earned the largest one-week sales figures of any hard rock or heavy metal album since that Foos record debuted.
Comparatively, Concrete and Gold moved 127,000 units in its inaugural week and while Slipknot's tally of 118,000 equivalent album units (102,000 physical sales, the rest are streaming equivalents) didn't top the Foos' number, it was good enough to edge out rappers Rick Ross (No. 2) and Trippie Redd (No. 3).
Boosting these gigantic first-week sales was Slipknot's album/ticket bundle, which, as of July 26, offered fans the ability to redeem the album through a digital download code that was included with each ticket purchase for the Knotfest Roadshow tour featuring Slipknot, Volbeat, Gojira and Behemoth.
That tour is still criss-crossing North America and the remaining stops can be seen below. For Knotfest tickets, head here.
With the streak of No. 1 albums still alive, this feat also marks the fifth time Slipknot have debuted inside the Top 3 on the Billboard 200 charts, .5: The Gray Chapter (2014) and All Hope Is Gone (2008) each hit No. 1 with Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) (2004) and Iowa (2001) ascended to No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
Slipknot's self-titled 1999 debut is their only studio album not to appear inside Billboard's Top 3, peaking at No. 55. It is, however, the band's only album to be certified double-platinum by the RIAA.
