The nominees for the Best Metal Performance Grammy for 2020 have been revealed with Tool, Killswitch Engage, Candlemass, Death Angel and I Prevail all getting the nod.

The five song nominees for the Best Metal Performance at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards are:

Candlemass, "Astorolus - The Great Octopus" feat. Tony Iommi
Death Angel, "Humanicide"
I Prevail, "Bow Down"
Killswitch Engage, "Unleashed"
Tool, "7empest"

Last year, High on Fire's "Electric Messiah" beat out Between the Buried and Me's "Condemned to the Gallows," Deafheaven's "Honeycomb," Trivium's "Betrayer" and Underoath's "On My Teeth" for the Best Metal Performance Grammy. It was the very first Grammy win for High on Fire, who finally got the nod for the title track of their eighth full length.

The turning point for the Best Metal Performance Grammy came with the nominees for 2016, where it appeared that the organization's committee took a deeper and honest look into the genre, no longer nominating artists for cover songs, instead giving looks to bands currently defining the genre.
