Marilyn Manson is over half-way through recording his next album, which will feature production contributions from outlaw country icon Shooter Jennings, according to a recent interview with the veteran shock-rocker.

Speaking on the latest Trunk Nation LA Invasion: Live from the Rainbow Bar & Grill podcast Monday (April 8), Manson said the follow-up to Heaven Upside Down is "more than half" completed. He also described his working relationship with Jennings in the somewhat surprising pairing, as reported by Blabbermouth.

"I felt like it was a good time for a change," Manson said. "And I became friends with Shooter. And he's a musical genius."

He continued, "Shooter, he kind of reminds me of The Dude from The Big Lebowski … But we have this different vibe where I don't have to really tell him what I'm thinking. I didn't know this, but he was a fan of what I did growing up, also underneath his father, Waylon Jennings. So he adds a completely different element."

Additionally, the "Antichrist Superstar" noted he's steering his upcoming effort toward a sound that's "a bit of a mixture" of elements from David Bowie's 1974 album Diamond Dogs and English post-punk godfathers Killing Joke.

Manson — who helmed Heaven Upside down with producer and guitarist Tyler Bates — previously mentioned his alliance with Jennings on the upcoming album, indicating the producer's presence at the sessions on social media.

But drummer Gil Sharone left Marilyn Manson's band late last month, making it unclear if that musician's rhythms will wind up on the finished disc. The percussionist had been a part of Manson's back line since 2013.

Jennings — who's has had a solid year behind the board, it seems — recently produced some songs for Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan, such as "Chip Away" and "Tenderness," which appear on McKagan's new solo album.
