The life of Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo is serving as the muse for a new TV pilot called Detour, and now the cast for the series is starting to round out.

The show is based on Cuomo's decision to take some time off from Weezer at the height of their fame in order to return to college. According to Deadline, British actor Ben Aldridge has landed the lead role in the series, playing the character Michael Sturges, a rocker who quits his band in order to resume his education. Aldridge is just starting his acting career, with his biggest credit to date being a recurring role on the CW series Reign.

The Fox pilot has also cast Joey Morgan in the role of Walter, Michael's sweet-natured, brilliant and socially awkward college roommate. The series is being executive produced by Cuomo.

In real life, Cuomo managed to balance the band with his education. And Weezer have seen their career continue to flourish. The group is currently supporting their Everything Will Be Alright in the End album and will be touring this summer. Included in the run will be a headlining spot at the inaugural Loudwire Music Festival on June 26 in Grand Junction, Colo. See all their dates here.
