Slipknot Plan to Release 11 ‘All Hope Is Gone’ Outtakes During This Album Cycle
Slipknot are riding high right now — We Are Not Your Kind came out a week and a half ago on Aug. 9 and is No. 1 in the U.S. right now. They've knocked several prominent contemporary artists, including Ed Sheeran and Drake, off the top of the charts in the U.S. and the U.K. Their Knotfest Roadshow with Volbeat, Behemoth and Gojira has been one of the hottest shows of the summer.
"We’re in a very good place. Right now we’re gonna enjoy the fruits of our labor and enjoying all the hard work that went into this," Shawn "Clown" Crahan told Loudwire in an interview a few days before the album was released. However, according to Clown, Slipknot plan to release 11 outtakes from the All Hope Is Gone era sometime during this album cycle.
During the writing and recording of All Hope is Gone, Crahan, Jim Root, Corey Taylor and Sid Wilson were frustrated with what was happening in the main studio, so producer Dave Fortman put them in another studio and gave them equipment to record more experimental, psychedelic tunes. When interviewer Jon Wiederhorn points out that the seeds of this experience seem to have sprouted with We Are Not Your Kind, Clown reveals that the band plan to release these outtakes as now is the right time.
"We have a whole other album that four of us wrote when we did All Hope Is Gone. We have 11 songs that we’re gonna release sometime in this album cycle," Slipknot's creative mastermind explains. "But it’s never been about just getting it out. It needs to be out when it’s right and by coming out during this album cycle people will even understand more what we’re doing on this album and what first led to it."
All Hope Is Gone was released in 2008. While these outtakes are over a decade old, it'll be interesting to see how they tie in with the new material.
