System of a Down Perform First and Only Show of 2014
System of a Down performed their first and only show of 2014 on Saturday night (Dec. 13) at the Forum in Los Angeles as part of KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas. The band took the stage for the first time since they performed in Italy back in August of 2013. You can watch their entire set in the player above.
System performed a 16-song set for the capacity crowd at the Forum, kicking things off with a raucous performance of ‘Chop Suey!’ The band also performed ‘Aerials,’ 'Hypnotize,’ ‘Lonely Day,’ ‘Toxicity,’ ‘Spiders’ and closed with ‘Sugar.’
While 2014 was a quiet year for System of a Down, they have announced their 'Wake Up The Souls' tour for 2015. The outing will feature System commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide, which was carried out by the Ottoman Empire. More than 1.5 million Armenians were killed during the period of ethnic cleansing, and throughout System of a Down’s career, the Armenian-American quartet has brought awareness to the tragic event.
The outing consists of seven dates culminating in the System's first-ever performance in their homeland of Armenia. "As a band, it’s been one of our dreams to play in Armenia,” says vocalist Serj Tankian. “To be able to play in the homeland of our forefathers while respecting the memory of those that perished in the first genocide of the 20th century will be an honor.”
