Tool’s ‘Fear Inoculum’ in 2019’s Top 10 Highest Pure Album Sales
Tool rewarded fans for their patience by finally releasing their new album, Fear Inoculum, this year. The fans have, in turn, rewarded the band for their hard work as Tool have absolutely dominated the charts, dethroning one of mainstream's biggest artists from the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. Now the album has cracked the Top 10 as one of the highest pure albums sales in the United States of any artists this year.
The term pure album sales is used to denote that this total number does not taking streaming figures into account. Chart Data tweeted the Top 10, showing that Fear Inoculum, No. 8, rests just under the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack, representing the only two rock records inside the Top 10.
It's Taylor Swift's Lover that tops it all, but at least Tool knocked the pop star off her perch as mentioned earlier.
While Chart Data didn't report on the exact sales figures, we do know that Tool's pure album sales during the first week totaled a staggering 247,000 copies, with the grand total, including streaming numbers, coming to 270,000. That was good enough to secure the third highest opening week this year.
What's especially impactful about these numbers is that they do not include the popular ticket bundle tactic where fans who purchase a concert ticket receive a free download voucher for the new album.
It's possible that if Tool didn't completely sell out of the limited edition Fear Inoculum CD set that these numbers would be even larger. At least they're making more though.
Congrats to Tool on another victory notch in the Fear Inocoulum belt. Some more recent triumphs include every song on the new album, including interludes, entering the Top 25 on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart. Upon uploading their entire catalog to digital service providers prior to Fear Inoculum's release, Tool also occupied all 10 spots on Billboard's Rock Digital Songs Sales chart.
