Trivium’s Matt Heafy Dedicates ‘One More Light’ Acoustic Cover to Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington
Trivium frontman Matt Heafy has been serving up a wide range of acoustic covers in recent months, either stripping down metal and hard rock songs or putting his own spin on pop classics. This time, the occasion is quite somber as his most recent acoustic rendition is the "One More Light" title track off Linkin Park's latest album, which Heafy dedicated to the late Chester Bennington.
The song itself is rather chilling considering the circumstances as the chorus states, "If they say / Who cares if one more light goes out? / In a sky of a million stars / It flickers, flickers / Who cares when someone's time runs out? / If a moment is all we are / We're quicker, quicker / Who cares if one more light goes out? / Well I do."
There's not much tweaking that needed to be done on Heafy's end as he delicately strums along at a gentle pace, putting his clean singing under the spotlight. "One More Light" is a moving ballad, expressing emotions about the pain of loss and Heafy's voice takes on a crisp, crystalline quality with slight vibrato used to emphasize key words along certain points.
Since Bennington's death on Thursday (July 20), there's been an outpouring of grief and tributes from both fans and the singer's peers. Motionless in White covered "One Step Closer" and Periphery offered a studio tribute with "Shadow of the Day." Meanwhile, both Korn and Stone Sour (on tour together) each dedicated a song to Bennington the same night he died.
