Watch Emil & Dariel’s Cello Cover of System of a Down’s ‘Chop Suey’
Over the years there have been quite a few cover versions of System of a Down’s 2001 breakthrough single “Chop Suey,” including a bizarre take featuring animal noises and YouTube sensation Rob Scallon’s performance which has over 3.4 million views.
Emil & Dariel are the latest artists to cover the Toxicity track. Their version of the song enlists two cellos, a drummer and some chopsticks. Watch the video in the player above.
The clip pokes fun at music videos; the band members and friends are eating chop suey throughout; at one point a list is shown with items being checked off including a "slow mo badass walk," "cellos," "sunglasses" and "random hot girls."
Emil & Dariel’s version is spot on with the cellos being run through some nice effects including distortion and a wah-wah to create some texture. The duo have a long list of covers on their YouTube page including takes on Megadeth's "Tornado of Souls," Evanescence’s “Bring Me to Life,” Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train.”
