Ghost Debut Theatrical ‘Rats’ Video, Announce New Album
At long last the veil has finally been lifted and we have all the details about Ghost's fourth album, Prequelle.
The album will arrive on June 8, adding 10 new hymns to the Ghost canon and you can watch the video for the first single, "Rats," below. Musically, it falls more in line with the band's first album as it's a riff-centric track, though instead of imbuing Blue Oyster Cult vibes, it leans more toward the '80s. It also introduces a harsh rasp in the chorus as new vocalist Cardinal Copia makes his mark on Ghost's sound.
The video doesn't disappoint either and is quite theatrical, bringing to mind Michael Jackson's iconic "Thriller." Cardinal Copia has some dance moves to challenge the King of Pop, twirling through the streets in dramatic fashion, surrounded by turmoil.
When we spoke to Ghost leader Tobias Forge last week, he commented on "Rats" stating, "When we made 'Square Hammer,' we needed a big opening track. It was inspired by various explosive opening tracks and records. Specifically, when I was a kid, there was a concert called the Moscow Peace Festival. It was broadcast on TV. It's one of those moments that I remember so clearly, I was eight years old. Ozzy Osbourne opened with 'I Don't Know,' and it's such a fucking great opening track. This was in front of like 80,000 people, who went nuts. I wanted to have that feel with 'Rats.' It's supposed to feel like that sort of opening track. A song that could get 80,000 people to jump. If you ever want to play bigger places, you need to have records that sound like you're playing in big places."
Pre-orders are available now at the Ghost webstore where you'll fine a variety of bundle packages, some even containing a plague doctor mask and special die cut vinyl. Check out the artwork and track listing below. Ghost will hit the road in May and you can check out a list of dates here.
