Usually, a progressive rock band (like any other band) has multiple chances (albums) to completely reach their potential and grow their audience. Honestly, and except in rare cases, said groups even need those initial LPs to work out all the kinks before releasing their best stuff.

However, there are those tragic situations of artists who strike gold with their first full-length collections but – for one reason or another – never get the chance to see what they could’ve done on subsequent records.

Regardless of whether the artists below officially broke up following their debut sets, the fact that they’ve not released a sophomore studio sequence in at least 10 years is reason enough to consider them for this list.
